I-NEC stands for International Network of e-Communities. The organization was founded in 2001 with initiative from the Dutch government but since 2003 it has worked as a fully operational multilateral organization.
The aim of I-NEC is to promote, facilitate and institutionalize cooperation by means of exchange, best practice programs, business development, missions, benchmarking tools, and joint project implementation. Collectively, the I-NEC partners have the ambition to excel as leaders in e-community development. As an organization, I-NEC facilitates exchange and benchmarking instruments, as well as the business development tools and best practice programs to further that ambition. Business development is facilitated by means of matchmaking facilities and missions. Active support is offered to private sector parties directly involved in e-community development and the creation of innovative services.
Members of I-NEC are local communities, cities or regions engaged in high-end ICT and broadband deployment or those who have the ambition to go there. The members enjoy support and access experience, knowledge and expertise from other I-NEC members or its staff. I-NEC offers various levels of membership that will suit different communities depending on their needs.
