What is I-NEC?

I-NEC stands for Inter­na­tional Net­work of e-Communities. The orga­ni­za­tion was founded in 2001 with ini­tia­tive from the Dutch gov­ern­ment but since 2003 it has worked as a fully oper­a­tional mul­ti­lat­eral organization.

The aim of I-NEC is to pro­mote, facil­i­tate and insti­tu­tion­al­ize coop­er­a­tion by means of exchange, best prac­tice pro­grams, busi­ness devel­op­ment, mis­sions, bench­mark­ing tools, and joint project imple­men­ta­tion. Col­lec­tively, the I-NEC part­ners have the ambi­tion to excel as lead­ers in e-community devel­op­ment. As an orga­ni­za­tion, I-NEC facil­i­tates exchange and bench­mark­ing instru­ments, as well as the busi­ness devel­op­ment tools and best prac­tice pro­grams to fur­ther that ambi­tion. Busi­ness devel­op­ment is facil­i­tated by means of match­mak­ing facil­i­ties and mis­sions. Active sup­port is offered to pri­vate sec­tor par­ties directly involved in e-community devel­op­ment and the cre­ation of inno­v­a­tive services.

Mem­bers of I-NEC are local com­mu­ni­ties, cities or regions engaged in high-end ICT and broad­band deploy­ment or those who have the ambi­tion to go there. The mem­bers enjoy sup­port and access expe­ri­ence, knowl­edge and exper­tise from other I-NEC mem­bers or its staff. I-NEC offers var­i­ous lev­els of mem­ber­ship that will suit dif­fer­ent com­mu­ni­ties depend­ing on their needs.
