France's first true commitment to FttH? Europe

France's first true commitment to FttH?

Following the modestly sized early initiative of broadband deployment in the Pyrenee town of Pau, France seems to be finally making headway with broadband deployment. Hauts de Seine, the department of Candidate President Sarkozy, is the hotbed for deployment in 2007. Below a brief outline while the subscription to be offered to residents as per 2007 is described in the attachment.

De department of Hauts-de-Seine, with about the highest average income of France, counts 1.5 million inhabitants and 100,000 corporations with 880,000 full time jobs, 85% of them in the service sectors. In march 2006 the department’s Conseil Géneral adopted a motion put forward by its President, M. Nicolas Sarkozy, to roll out a fibre network to all addresses in the department. The project was proposed by Mr Sarkozy personally, as he strongly considers it to be of paramount importance to the economic and social development.
