Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced a loan of $15,902,000 in rural development funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for broadband access in Clarion, Eagle Grove, Goldfield, Humboldt and Renwick. Harkin is Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee.

“In the 21st century, high-speed internet access is a basic, essential utility. Farmers and others need it to do business. Students in rural America need it to do their homework and connect to the rest of the world. Harkin developed the current Broadband program in the 2002 farm bill and has worked to improve its implementation. He hopes to provide continued support and improvements to USDA Broadband assistance in the upcoming farm bill. |
